Bug 412523 – sys-apps/groff fails to cross compile x86_64 -> armv7a

The pertinent message from the build log appears to be this:

checking whether we are cross compiling... configure: error: in `/usr/armv7a-unknown-linux-gnueabi/tmp/portage/sys-apps/groff-1.21-r1/work/groff-1.21/src/libs/gnulib':
configure: error: cannot run C compiled programs.
If you meant to cross compile, use `--host'.

I'm cross-compiling a complete system for some ARM boxes and this and a couple of other packages have failed because the configure script apparently doesn't realise that I'm cross-compiling.  Given that most of the other packages built correctly I assume this is a bug...

The host instance of Gentoo doing the compiling is actually running inside VirtualBox on Windows 7 (because I'm at work) in case that's somehow to blame.

Note: I paused the emerge process and deleted the offending section from the two configure files before they got run and the build completed without a hitch.
Not had a chance to test if the resulting binaries work, though.
