As per summary, the version we have in stable is quite ancient, and this version should be much better. Please note that while I just committed -r3, it's a minimal change from -r2 which I committed in October.

for me builds fine on amd64, but i can't start services:

socket: Address family not supported by protocol
socket: Address family not supported by protocol
atalkd: can't get interfaces, exiting.

check "CONFIG_DEV_APPLETALK" in kernel .config and/or 'modprobe appletalk'
