Description Nicolas Laplante 2012-03-19 10:05:52 UTC
After installing ntop-4.1.0, I fired the ntop service and pointed my browser to http://localohost:3000.

The error message I got was :

"No interface has been configured. Please configure ntop first."

So I edited /etc/conf.d/ntop to set the following NTOP_OPTS:

NTOP_OPTS="-u ntop -P /var/lib/ntop --interface eth0 -i eth0"

After restarting ntop, I got the same error again. I clicked on the "configure ntop first" link in the error message and entered the admin password.

On the next screen, the place where I could specify the interface, there was the following error message in red:

You cannot set the capture interface: missing privileges.
You need to start ntop with super-user privileges [-u]

So I went back to /etc/conf.d/ntop and changed "-u ntop" to "-u root" and restarted the service. Still, I got the same error message. Cannot specify the interface.

I don't know what to do next...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install ntop 4.1.0 and set "-i eth0" in /etc/conf.d/ntop
2. Start service
3. Point browser to http://localhost:3000
Actual Results:
Error message "No interface has been configured. Please configure ntop first."

Expected Results:
Show stats about the network interface specified in the NTOP_OPTS of /etc/conf.d/ntop

Why specify interface twice? "-i eth0" should suffice, no?
