please post: emerge info as well as the version of xfree you're trying Portage 2.0.49-r21 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r9, 2.4.22-gentoo-r5) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.22-gentoo-r5 i686 Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1.70GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.12 XFree86 Version 4.3.0 Release Date: 27 February 2003 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.6 Build Operating System: Linux 2.4.22-gentoo-r5 i686 [ELF] Build Date: 27 January 2004 Before reporting problems, check http://www.XFree86.Org/ to make sure that you have the latest version. Module Loader present There is also another issue, although, I don't know if its related or not. Often, when I have an open session and i switch to a virtual terminal, after a few moments i am switched automatically back to the X session, only, I am not logged in to it anymore, and everything I had opened is gone. Is this related or should I post a seperate bug? Do you use a framebuffer console? Which X driver do you use? Some drivers are broken and will deadlock (esp. in combination with framebuffer consoles) as far as i know, im not using a framebuffer. i never configured it anywhere and i dont think it was a default. I have more information, however, that i found in syslog: several of these: mymachine kdm[1015]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly and, these: kdm_greet[1054]: Can't open default user face and a few of these: Feb 5 00:13:58 mymachine kdm[18178]: Hung in XOpenDisplay(:1), aborting Feb 5 00:13:58 mymachine kdm[18178]: server open failed for :1, giving up Feb 5 00:13:58 mymachine kdm[1033]: Display :1 cannot be opened i've been asking around and apparently its likely a problem with my driver, i810, which doesnt support multiple sessions very well. so, i guess this isnt a gentoo bug, sorry. Yep, I saw you asking. =P ok, closing as a wontfix then. Created attachment 94159 [details]

I'm seeing the same lock-up with the fglrx driver. I log into KDE, choose K-->Lock Session, and the screen goes blank. From there the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive.
