There's a bug in the current version of SDL_mixer where failing to load a WAV sample will result in freeing a resource twice, resulting in an application crash.  There is an upstream fix for this:

Since SDL_mixer releases are very rare, this probably needs to be included in portage (could be years until upstream makes another release.)

nah, it's a ~ package and a rare condition.  Re-emerge if it affects you somehow.
