Summary says it all.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. start mc
2. hit Ctrl+O (switch to original console)
3. do something
4. hit Ctrl+O (back to mc)
5. hit Ctrl+O (back to console)

Actual Results:  
After step 2 and step 5, the cursor is at the bottom of a completely empty 
screen with only a shell prompt.

Expected Results:  
With (mc-3.x everywhere) and (mc-4.x everywhere but Gentoo) the saved screen 
contents is restored. Problem is only in linux console, not terminal emulators 
in X.

Still assigned to Bugwaranglers after 4 days, hope mc is not unmaintained, it's a real useful program.

the same happens here, but on debian aswell

I tested Debian-3, Suse-8.2, and Mandrake-9.2. Works there.
