Booting from the cd, the kernel selection screen comes up, and no matter what options/kernels i use, the screen goes blank but the rest of the system sounds like its still going. (is there a kernel that does absolutely nothing to initalise the video barr enter text mode? thats all i need)

This has happened with all gentoo live cds so far on this setup.

Its a old Cirrus Logic GD5434 based pci video card. i dont have another pci video card to test with, but if i can borrow one i will update the bug report with more info.

Actual Results:  
The screen goes blank with a cursor in the upper left corner, then that 
disapears too 

Expected Results:  
showed me a pretty booting up screen

strange that nofb doesnt work, 
you can try with "gentoo vga=0" or "gentoo vga=normal"
