I tried to compile octave with the useflag fltk. fltk-1.3.0 was merged by default. Compiling octave failed with many errors. See this entry:

As described there, fltk-1.3 is only a developer snapshot and not intended for usage.

I masked fltk-1.3.0, fltk-1.1 was merged instead. Octave compiles successfully.

Emerge octave with useflag fltk.

Error during compilation.

Successful compiling.

I'm guessing you are still on 3.2.x series, then bug 351963 would be back,

3.2.x series also fails to build with GCC 4.6 and I don't have any development boxes left with older GCC versions so I can't actually test reapplying the dropped patch

Let's proceed with stabilizing something more recent. Arches please do you magic. There's one test that fails for me, but it doesn't seem crucial. If you want to test it more thoroughly please see [1]. TIA!

scanelf shows sys-libs/readline that missing among RDEPEND in the ebuild, please check and add it if necessary.

for everything else amd64 is ok
