Apparently this in the kmod ebuilds: RDEPEND="tools? ( !!sys-apps/module-init-tools ) ..." is not enough. Yes, we know about this. The best way to do this once kmod is keyworded everywhere and unmasked will be to re-introduce virtual/modutils. I have introduced virtual/modutils to the tree, and replaced module-init-tools with it in the base profile. Also I have fixed the blockers in m-i-t and kmod so that they will work correctly. The dependencies in the tree on module-init-tools should either be removed since this is in system, or they should be switched to virtual/modutils. linux-mod.eclass needs updated for kmod fyi current version of kmod and current eclass resolved all the issues, IMO; kmod-4 is no more in the tree.
