The rio500 ebuild has the --with-usbdevfs option commented out of the .ebuild file.  When I uncomment it out and try to run the rio_stat I get a bunch of errors( see below ).
  Not using the usbdevfs option works w/o error, except that on a machine with USBDEVFS enabled the Rio 500 device node is /dev/usb/rio5000, and the utility expects the Rio to be at /dev/usb/rio500( can be changed via configure script ).

Linux kernel 2.6.1-Gentoo, specifically with rio500 USB module enabled.

I should check my bug list more often. I do not own such a device, or use the package, so I can't really do much about this bug.

i can't say that i can help here. i'm closing this as CANTFIX unless someone can come up with a solution. i don't have a rio either.
