I disable tcp-wrappers when I did so, nrpe stopped working (was not recompiled).
ldd showed that it was linked against libwrap.

There is no check for libwrap in configure (checks if installed, not if --enabled).  Dunno if you want to force it on (would be the only package to do so) or patch configure.in to support setting it.
