Could this be the solution for the much spoken about failure when using the new genkernel:

mounting /dev/hdx on /newroot failed: Invalid argument.

as some kind of RAM disk is required when using genkernel?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Just use new genkernel instead of manually configure menuconfig

Couldn't mount ROOT disk

Expected Results:  
Mount ROOT disk

please tell me if this is a 2.4 or 2.6 kernel and what architecture you're on
