here is that automake-1.11.2 introduced new stricter directory variables and pkglibdir has been deprecated in favor of pkgdatadir. I've got a patch but I'm not 100% sure about it because it does separate the .xml files out of /usr/lib/valgrind/ and puts them into /usr/share/valgrind/, which makes sense but ... does it break anything? I'm testing it on my overlay at http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=dev/blueness.git;a=tree;f=dev-util/valgrind;h=523e8e51c9bd3abae331123b8600bae2e30a5070;hb=48d9937f30007dfef0ed8b82b6b3c941ed2b8bd5 The patch is at http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=dev/blueness.git;a=blob;f=dev-util/valgrind/files/valgrind-3.7.0-automake-1.11.2.patch;h=2c286f9b767542b6f890b62976aed67dfdb5c649;hb=48d9937f30007dfef0ed8b82b6b3c941ed2b8bd5 (In reply to comment #2) > which makes sense but ... does it break anything? It does, valgrind still expects the xml in /usr/lib/valgrind. Okay this has been reported upstream:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290719
Since there are a couple of approaches to this, its really upstream's call on how they want to deal with their build system when automake 1.11.2 becomes more popular. In the mean time, I think Gentoo's solution will have to be to DEPEND <automake/automake-1.11.2. Sorry to those who'll have to downgrade but that's how it is with autotools that breaks backward compat regularly.
I'll leave this bug open for about a week or so, to gather more comments, and then commit the change without rev bump.
Okay I added Gregorio Guidi's patch from the upstream bug report. I tested it against automake-1.11.2 and -1.11.1 and it works, so its safe and respects backwards compat. Its in the tree as dev-util/valgrind-3.7.0-r2. Can people please test and reopen this bug if this is still an issue? |
