Hi, I use a testing version of portage (see additional information) and I was having issues emerging some ebuilds because whirpool verification was failing. I verified whirpool checksums on the donwloaded files using openssl from the command line and output was ok. I then noticed my Python installation had no mhash module, and after installing it, ebuilds were installed ok. Shouldn't different implementations of whirpool used in Portage give the same results?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Verify you don't have mhash module in Python
2. Emerge an ebuild with Whirpool verification information (I was emerging ebuilds from the kde overlay)
3. If emerge fails, install dev-python/python-mhash and try again
Actual Results:  
In my case, the first attempt failed, and the second worked.

Expected Results:  
I would expect any implementation of whirlpool used by Portage would throw the same results. If not, maybe it should be well advertised. Since sys-apps/portage probably can't depend on dev-python/python-mhash, maybe it means it should never try using mhash at all and stick to the internal utils.

It would be useful to have examples of particular files that triggered the verification failure.

Hi, I just updated my Python installation and it works fine now (withouth having to install python-mhash) so I think this was just a bug in my setup, sorry for the invonvenience.
