Description Kelly Harnden (uglyman) 2004-01-25 19:50:10 UTC
Hi, I put in a URL above that goes to a thread in the forums where I was trying to help someone who was having emerge perl fail. Now two more people came by with the same problem, so although I cannot verify personally, I think it is a real problem. In my first attempt to help I was not thinking of the fact that I am ~ARCH for unstables, so please disregaurd my first post in the thread.

I have talked to one of these users extensively on yahoo now and I find that the common thing between all of them is that they are all using stable packages. (no ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~ARCH setting). It seems that when they try to emerge perl it is unable to wget the files. As far as I can tell the newest perl ebuild (~ARCH) works fine, but it sounds as if the files simply do not exist for the older versions.

let me tripple apologize if this is a dupe. I am surprised it is not reported yet, but searching for anything perl related gives so many results I might have missed something.

let me know if I can do anything to help.

Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1. only be accepting stable packages
2. emerge perl
3.

Actual Results:
I haven't been able to try since I already have experimental package installed

Expected Results:
downloaded a version that is actually available

hi,
someone on the forums suggest that this might be a missing mirror setting. I don't think this makes much sense. I talked to bungernaught on yahoo some more and got him to send me the mirror settings from his make.conf.

GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://adelie.polymtl.ca/"

I don't think it would make sense at all for this to be a mirror problem. The problem seems to be that ftp.perl.org no longer has the files, the old ebuilds are looking for.

thanks for the help!

I'm having the same problem - stable packages only and the source package just ins't on the perl.org ftp server, so install fails. THe package, as mentioned in the thread is still avaialble at http://www.lfs-es.org/packages/5.0/perl-5.8.0.tar.bz2 as a work around.

does this effect all new instalations? shouldnt it be fixed fairly soon if so?
why wouldnt it effect all stage 1 instaltions?
