Description Harris Landgarten 2011-12-03 17:20:15 UTC
When I run a windows vm using vmware-workstation in full screen multi-monitor mode all works well until the monitor go into power save. After wake up, a move to overview and switch to any workspace causes gnome-shell to freeze and no long react to mouse clicks or keystrokes. If there is audio or video it continues to play. Note that I am running NVidia 9500GT with 3 1920x1200 monitors. Sometimes I can kill gnome-shell remotely and everything comes back. Other time gnome-shell doesn't restart after the kill and xorg-server locks up with 100% cpu. If I leave the computer with the Windows vm not in full screen mode then everything works properly and no problems after monitor wakeup.

Reproducible: Always

1) Please post your `emerge --info' output too.
2) Please attach any (partial/redacted) logs that may shed light on the cause of
   the hangs.

I triggered the same bug by starting the linux version of ThinkorSwim after a wakeup from overnight. It started full screen on one monitor. When I double clicked the title bar, gnome-shell locked up. I was able to recover by sending an HUP to the gnome-shell pid. I also noticed that I am using a lot of memory. The machine has 24G of ram is is slightly dipping into swap.
