Please test xfree-drm-4.3.0-r7.
Comment 1 Sebastian 2004-02-26 13:07:24 UTC
Hello!

I tried xfree-drm now for the first time because mach64 now is included (thanks!). I have every software up to date to stable marked ebuilds.

But it doesn't work; I don't get dri (that's what glxinfo says). I had retinalburns dri/xv patch working with the DRI CVS. That's why I wonder why I doesn't work with the ebuild.

I have build my kernel with agpgart as a module. So when booting the modules get loaded. XFree doesn't load them itself.

dmesg | less:

agpgart: Detected Intel 440BX chipset
agpgart: AGP aperture is 64M @ 0x50000000
[drm] AGP 0.99 aperture @ 0x50000000 64MB
[drm] Initialized mach64 1.0.0 20020904 on minor 0

So, I take it no problems here. So why doesn't xfree use the modules?
Thanks
Sebastian

If you need more data, tell me and I'll react pronto.
Sebastian

Could you please attach those files as separate plain-text files?

You are on AMD64, correct, since this is an AMD64 bug?

Also, "I have build my kernel with agpgart as a module. So when booting the modules get loaded. XFree doesn't load them itself." is untrue. XFree86 will automatically load them even if they are built as modules, with the exception of kernels greater or equal to 2.5 for which it doesn't autoload the AGP chipset-specific module.

Ping amd64 people.
Comment 5 Jon Portnoy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-20 12:43:55 UTC
AFAIK, xfree-drm is strictly for 2.4 kernels, yes?

We do not support 2.4 on AMD64.

In that case, can I remove xfree-drm-4.3.0-r2 from the tree? It's marked amd64 and that's holding me back.

Yep.
Comment 8 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-20 13:20:31 UTC
One final note for anyone who spots this bug: xfree-drm as of -r7 only supports 2.4, but in theory it can support 2.6 and battousai's working to make this happen.
