not sure is it is mesa/ati/kernel issue but I have a two seat multiseat config with ATI5450HD in a pcie-2.0x16 slot and a ATI3650HD on pciex4 slot using the git versions of libdrm, mesa and xf86-video-ato. for some reason the screen connected to the ATI3650HD get black (like it looses connection or something) and I cannot get it back, I need to ssh into the comp and restart kdm. it isn't kde issue as it happens in E17. also, I'm pretty sure this doesn't happens on the ATI5450HD but I'll check. I've disabled DPMS for both in xorg.conf but it still happens.
