Description Chris Smith 2011-11-05 17:35:02 UTC
Not an ebuild issue as it happens during a manual configure as well. First noticed this samba-3.5.1 and it still exits today with samba-3.6.1.

Problem exists on both 32 and 64 bit systems:
===============================================
configure: WARNING: linux/inotify.h: present but cannot be compiled
configure: WARNING: linux/inotify.h: check for missing prerequisite headers?
configure: WARNING: linux/inotify.h: see the Autoconf documentation

configure: WARNING: ## Report this to samba-technical@samba.org ##
configure: WARNING:     ## ---------------------------------------- ##
===============================================

Posted a bug on the samba list as well:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8580

I cannot reproduce the problem on my Ubuntu 11.10 system or on a really out-of-date Gentoo system (gcc-4.3 and glibc-2.7) that hasn't been updated in some time. They both produce the proper result.

Working systems I get this:
===============================================
configure:22909: checking for inotify support
configure:22918: checking linux/inotify.h usability
configure:22918: gcc -c -O -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_GNU_SOURCE  -Iinclude -I./include  -I. -I. -I./../lib/replace -I./../lib/tevent -I./librpc -I./.. -I./../lib/popt -I/usr/include conftest.c >&5
configure:22918: $? = 0
configure:22918: result: yes
===============================================

Non-working systems I get this:

I posted the "emerge --info" but this has been going for quite a while - first noticed it on 3-10-2010 with samba-3.5.1. Has originally thought it was a samba bug but I'm not so sure now.

In case it helps:
Tested installing linux-headers-2.6.39 without applying the gentoo linux-headers patchset (remmed out the src_prepare block) and the problem does not occur.
