For those who may stumble onto this bug report, there was also a chat on the forums here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-961378-postdays-0-postorder-asc-start-25.html?sid=1b376eebd99a7916dcd00e5d51698546

It mentions this overlay: https://github.com/Fat-Zer/trinity.git

But it hasn't been updated in at least 7 months (since Jan 2019).  There has been significant changes since then. In particular, there has been another release (R14.0.6) and a change in the code repository location, both of which have yet to be reflected in this overlay.

Because of this, I have forked the overlay repository to my github, and I will attempt to make the required updates. I will send a PR to Fat-Zer once I feel the updates are tested and ready.

That is because a Gentoo Trinity overlay seems to be actually maintained upstream:

I did quite a lot back then to improve things from Gentoo packaging angle in their repo, and they are receptive to pull requests, but fundamentally TDE never fully forked KDE3 which means many applications are clashing with modern day KDE Applications for using the same name.
