If you have a line with the pattern 'var="value" ' genenviron.awk generates a line like 'export var="value "' in /etc/profile.env. I'll attach a patch that should fix this.
(noticed that as I had this for LC_MESSAGES and perl didn't stop complaining even when I fixed it in profile.env as it is regenerated by /etc/init.d/bootmisc)
