Description Andrey Vihrov 2011-10-15 09:03:14 UTC
I'm not sure where does this bug belong, so please reassign as necessary.

The ebuild for =media-sound/rhythmbox-0.12.8-r1 in Portage works fine for me. However, when I copy it to a local overlay (with the intent of adding a custom patch), it fails with a bizarre error:

>>> Emerging (1 of 1) media-sound/rhythmbox-0.12.8-r1 from local

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set up an overlay at /usr/local/portage
2. mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/media-sound
3. cp -r ${PORTDIR}/media-sound/rhythmbox /usr/local/portage/media-sound
4. emerge rhythmbox

Actual Results:
Emerge fails.

Expected Results:
The ebuild works exactly like before it was copied.

Comment 1 Andrey Vihrov 2011-10-15 18:56:17 UTC
I found the trigger (but not the cause) for the problem (thanks to sera at #gentoo-dev-help). It was the file <local overlay>/metadata/layout.conf with the following content:

# Autogenerated and managed by crossdev
# Delete the above line if you want to manage this file yourself
masters = armagetron gentoo

I doubt I can follow crossdev logic for setting up such "masters", but after deleting the file I am able to emerge rhythmbox again.

Sorry for the bugspam.
