There are some bugs and features (such as better consolekit support), that are provided or fixed in the newer slims (-r5, -r6).  As some of these bugs are currently open waiting for a newer one to be stabilized, and some other bugs are being filed due to the issues with -r3 which are fixed later, please stabilize the newer version.
