Description Elias Probst 2011-10-07 11:37:21 UTC
As there were a lot of Nepomuk/Strigi related problems (crashes, CPU/Memory usage, ...), the main Nepomuk author Sebastian Trüg started a bug hunt.

See the following blog posts:
http://trueg.wordpress.com/2011/09/19/nepomuk-what-comes-next-revised/
http://trueg.wordpress.com/2011/09/21/first-round-of-bug-fixes/

http://trueg.wordpress.com/2011/10/05/the-hunt-for-nepomuk-bugs-continues/

In this blog post, he tries to clear up the confusion which components are needed for Nepomuk etc.:
http://trueg.wordpress.com/2011/09/22/about-strigi-soprano-virtuoso-clucene-and-libstreamanalyzer/

His response to my comment also makes clear, that the "old" Strigi is rather dead and libstreamanalyzer/libstreams should be used instead.

The question is, whether to remove app-misc/strigi completely or modify its build in a way, that it doesn't interfere anymore with KDE, which means:
libstreamanalyzer.so etc. isn't build by app-misc/strigi anymore but provided instead by kde-base/libstreamanalyzer, while app-misc/strigi depends on kde-base/libstreamanalyzer and just builds the Qt4 GUI and nothing else.

Any opinions/suggestions on this?

One temporary issue here: there are no released tarballs yet of libstreamanalyzer and libstreams on projects.kde.org

Note that this [1] *might* be related.

KDE team already release strigi from projects.kde.org. See strigi-0.7.6. libstreamanalyzer/libstreams are part of strigi, technicly there are only git submodules of strigi git repo. In my opinion this bug is invalid.

Exactly.
