FWIW, I am experiencing the syndaemon 100% CPU consumption problem described in and fixed by:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-synaptics/commit/?h=synaptics-1.5-branch&id=bdc9c7cf9767bda77c690cb4211f6f6cb4567748

Manually applying that commit resolves the issue. A bump would make me happy. ;)

The Bugs:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26213
this one is caused by the first one: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=265734

are also related to 1.5.0.

So there is a need to update for some people.

Maintainers: do you have plans to work on the bump?

If you agree, then the x11 team can do the bump and/or take maintenance of the package again.
Comment 4 Christoph Brill (egore) (RESIGNED) 2011-11-16 06:29:51 UTC
From my point of view 1.5 is a good release and about 2 month old. We haven't received any critical bug reports so I think bumping would be a good idea.

I also think that moving it over to the x11 herd would be a good idea. From the changelog the last bump was done by Tomáš Chvátal (scarabeus) who isn't listed in metadata.xml.

Maybe Tony Vroon (chainsaw) can comment on that?
Comment 5 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-11-16 07:35:20 UTC
There was past disagreement due to (nearly) all old ebuilds being taken away every bump, leaving users with no recourse if the new version was broken (which it was).
If we can agree that leaving users with downgrade paths is the proper thing to do, I have no problem with the X11 herd taking over and dropping my name from metadata.xml

xf86-input-synaptics-1.5.0 is now in the tree.

If you allow x11 to commit future version bumps and request stabilization of the package, that would be fine already.

Most packages maintained by us have two stable and (between stabilization rounds) one unstable version in tree now. Would that be ok for xf86-input-synaptics?
Comment 7 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-11-17 14:22:04 UTC
That's ok for me. Thanks for bumping btw.

Sign-off for the X11 herd to take over. Please remove my maintainer tag.
