There are a couple of " and $ characters unescaped, smbldap-configure.pl will tell you the problematic line numbers when run.

$ qlist -IUv dev-lang/perl
dev-lang/perl-5.12.3-r1 (berkdb gdbm)

Presumably you already have the line numbers and some error output. Why not provide them in the bug report?

i just edited it on the fly since i didn't know how badly the thing was broken. only realized afterwards i shouldve git'ed it anyway. right now swamped with other broken stuff, i'll put up a patch when i get back to this and nobody else has taken interest in the meanwhile.
