The Portage User Guide has been obsoleted by the second part of the Gentoo Handbook and will be removed from the documentation repository with the 2004 release. A section on etc-update is available at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook.xml?part=2&chap=4#doc_chap1_sect3 Would it be possible to link to that information from 11.b in the installation part? Just linking is enough, now it's pretty confusing. (Sorry if I'm just whining here, imho it's important) A small question: does it really matter? I find it strange that at the end of the installation of Gentoo, etc-update is at all necessary. You should only need it when you update your system, but beforehand you didn't even had a system... You're right there, it's a little bit later. Sorry for reopening. |
