When trying to emerge dev-lang/lua-5.1.4-r7 I get

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.3/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: final link failed: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -a lua
2.[ebuild  N] dev-lang/lua-5.1.4-r4  USE="deprecated readline -emacs -static" 
Actual Results:  
Emerge error during linking phase of make.

Expected Results:  
Compiles^^

We found the issue on #gentoofr.
Downgrade your libtool to the 2.4-r1
They recently added a patch that point at the linking on the 2.4-r2

I just hit the same issue. Is there not any patch to lua, that we can work with the current libtool?

just installed libtool-2.4-r3
no change

Can confirm this with gcc-4.6.1 and libtool-2.4-r3. Works with libtool-2.4-r1

Fixed by libtool-2.4-r4.
