Description Aditya Iyer 2011-09-19 14:49:04 UTC
chromium 13 renders fine exactly as firefox does. chromium 14 (and 15) streak/fringe colors and decrease the width of the stem with some letters.

It is easily noticeable on a wide color gamut full HD (1920x1080) display (e.g. Dell XPS 15 L502X notebook).

Have reported it upstream on an existing bug and have attached screenshots there.
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=96926

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Compare font rendering between chromium 13 and chromium 14 and firefox
2.
3.
Actual Results:
chromium 14 font rendering is worse than chromium 13 or firefox.

Expected Results:
font rendering should at least be the same if not better.

I can't say that I have noticed this myself, but I have been running chromium 15 for quite a while.

Anyway, my vote is RESO UPSTREAM unless there is some reason to believe that Gentoo is causing this.

I don't believe Gentoo has anything to do with this. This is more like an FYI and can be resolved appropriately. It is already reported upstream.

BTW, I observe the same issue in chromium 15 too. Font rendering is of course subjective, at least it is definitely noticeable to me. might be more noticeable with a better display...
