If you want to play with gcc-3.3.2 on sparc, switch the /etc/make.profile symlink to /usr/portage/profiles/gcc33-sparc64-1.4. That will let you merge and use it. The default profile is locked to gcc-3.2.3 until it gets verified enough. Right now we're trying to figure out what causes problems for people when they migrate from gcc-3.2.x to gcc-3.3.x on sparc64. The problems revolve around programs no longer working after being upgraded. Once we can figure out what is going on and fix it, we'll be switching to gcc-3.3.x gcc-3.3.3 works just fine here on sparc64. i had a problem that a libstdc++ or libstd5c++ or something like that was not built when emerging gcc3.3.3 on a sparc using directly emerging the ebuild of the masked version. ldconfig and env-update did not help because the library missing (and python needing it) was really not there, so this was the end of the road basically. Just my two cents, no offense intended, you doing a great job, sparc team! Alex gcc-3.3.x is now available on regular sparc profiles for users running ~sparc. |
