Hey!

I would like to make everyone aware that the latest mplayer ebuild (0.60)
wont play back dvd:s (in my experience) since it depends on a "bad" version
of libdvdcss. The 1.0 version of libdvdcss breaks dvd playback, please use
0.0.3.3 since it works like a charm!

does 0.0.3.3 work for every other packages (xine)?
if so, we should mask 1.0

I tried to try it out, but it's sooooo slow before starting to actually play the
film, why is that?

hey,
I can confirm that libdvdcss version 1.0 does not allow me to play back dvds.
I compiled version 0.0.3.3 which worked fine, then , when trying version 1.0 I
get the following errors, although i did unmerge 0.0.3.3 before redoing 1.0.

Encrypted VOB file (not compiled with libcss support)! Read file DOCS/cd-dvd.html
Encrypted VOB file (not compiled with libcss support)! Read file DOCS/cd-dvd.html

Before, not having installed libdvdcss at all, and using 1.0 i got the following
error:

libdvdread: Can't open libdvdcss: libdvdcss.so.0: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory.
libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.

And then something about the IFO file of title 1 being not readable, or couldn't
be found. I'm not sure anymore.

I will look further into this problem, when time allows, maybe some ebuild is a
little messed up. In the meantime, you might want to consider to make version 1.0.

It's me again! :)

From the mplayer documentation (that cd-dvd.html mentioned in the error message :)

* libdvdread 0.8 - you'll need libcss instead of libdvdcss
* libdvdread 0.9 - you'll need libdvdcss 0.0.3 ! Don't use newer versions, they
won't work!
* For example never use libdvdcss 1.0, it will be unusably slow!

Masked libdvdcss-1.0.0 until there is a fix for this.

Seemant, mplayer uses libdvdkit now .. this should really be fixed
(think from 0.90_pre3 already).
Comment 8 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-10-14 14:06:38 UTC
Should be fixed as of 0.90 I think.
