RAW printing is normally used when you want to share your printer with (windows) clients using their own printer drivers and CUPS just forwarding the raw input to the printer. If you don't want to install/use HPLIP most HP printers offer PCL and/or PostScript support which you can choose in CUPS via the manufacturer "Generic" option and then choosing "Generic PCL Laser Printer" or "Generic PostScript Printer". However you'll probably loose many features compared to using the proper HPLIP driver. |
