Another problem: the vala dep is most likely wrong. Unless it *only* compiles with vala:0, it should use the latest vala, i.e.: vala? ( dev-lang/vala:0.12 ) and with: [...] $(use_enable test tests) \ $(use_enable vala) \ VAPIGEN=$(type -p vapigen-0.12) That will override the value of VAPIGEN from AC_PATH_PROG(VAPIGEN, vapigen) in configure. The fact that all upstreams use an unversioned vapigen path is an unfortunate side-effect of the fact that all binary distros ship only one vala slot, and keep the binaries unversioned.
