Please post the output of `emerge -vpq net-print/cups' too. output of 'emerge -vpq net-print/cups': [ebuild R ] net-print/cups-1.4.6-r2 USE="X acl dbus gnutls java jpeg ldap pam perl php png python samba ssl threads tiff -debug -kerberos -slp -static-libs -xinetd" LINGUAS="de -da -es -eu -fi -fr -id -it -ja -ko -nl -no -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -sv -zh -zh_TW" (In reply to comment #0) > After an 'emerge -qvDNua world' printing is not working any more. More info! From which previously working version did you upgrade? Which printer/driver do you use? How is the printer connected to your system? > E [08/Aug/2011:09:47:27 +0200] Returning IPP > client-error-document-format-not-supported for Send-Document > (ipp://localhost:631/printers/CLP-315W) from localhost > > A command line print command gives the error message > lpr: Format ?text/plain? nicht unterstützt! (format not supported) Remove possible old leftovers like /etc/cups/mime.{convs,types} since the sane defaults are (now) located in /usr/share/cups/mime/. Also follow http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/utf-8.xml to migrate your system to UTF-8 which is mandatory for CUPS to work. See bug 244328 & 231111, and upstream bug http://www.cups.org/str.php?L2593 for details. I don't know how to find out what the previously working version of cups was. The printer is a Samsung CPL315W, connected to the network. Driver according to cups: Samsung CLP-310 Series (SPL-C) (color, 2-sided printing) This is the printer I actually want to use, but the other two printers I can select (SCX3205W and PDF) also don't work any more as they did a month ago. The error message is: E [11/Aug/2011:18:06:24 +0200] Returning IPP client-error-document-format-not-supported for Send-Document (ipp://localhost:631/printers/SCX3205W) from localhost E [11/Aug/2011:18:06:33 +0200] Returning IPP client-error-document-format-not-supported for Send-Document (ipp://localhost:631/printers/PDF) from localhost In /etc/cups, there are no files or directories named mime*, so there is nothing to remove. I would like to keep the LANG="de_DE@euro" setting because of compatibility reasons with other computers running in the same network. Because of this, I switched fron UTF8 to non-UTF8 some years ago. This had no influence on printing until last month. (In reply to comment #4) > I don't know how to find out what the previously working version of cups was. Have a look at /var/log/emerge.log. > This is the printer I actually want to use, but the other two printers I can > select (SCX3205W and PDF) also don't work any more as they did a month ago. Try removing and readding your printer and be sure you did etc-update after installing the new cups version. There could be many problems when upgrading from 1.3 to 1.4 and starting with a fresh config often helps. > I would like to keep the LANG="de_DE@euro" setting because of compatibility > reasons with other computers running in the same network. Please read the upstream bug I pointed out, there's nothing we can do about it. Either you convert to UTF-8 or you have to use a CUPS version <1.3.4 and deal with on your own in a local overlay. Please feel free to reopen the bug if it still fails after converting your system(s) to UTF-8. Removing and readding the printer did it, so I can leave the encoding as it is. |
