fbtruetype-bzip2.patch
I can confirm that splashutils-1.5.4.4 fails to compile. miscsplashutils-0.1.8 fails to build a static version of the fbtruetype utility. This happens because libfreetype needs libbz2.a library to be included when you want to create a static version of a program. There are two solutions to this:
1) Don't build fbtruetype.static
2) Add libbz2.a in the appropriate Makefile
As I don't really know if the static version of fbtruetype is useful or not, I went with the second solution and created a patch for the Makefile. Hope this helps!

splashutils-1.5.4.4-r1.patch
Here is the patch you need to apply to the current ebuild. It checks for the freetype version and if it's greater than 2.4.4, it applies the bz2 patch I posted before. The bz2 patch needs to be named splashutils-1.5.4.4-freetype-bz2.patch. Please test
I can also confirm splashutils failing to build on my ~x86 laptop with the same results. I installed Theofilos Intzoglou patches into my personal overlay and it built and installed properly. These patches should be included into the tree ASAP. TIA I have tried adding your patch but it fails to apply. I think you may have deviated from your instructions and not documented it. splashutils-1.5.4.4 build log
I'm trying to emerge the latest fixed splashutils ebuild (1.5.4.4) but it still fails with the same errors :(
Freetype version installed: media-libs/freetype-2.4.6 USE="X static-libs -auto-hinter -bindist -debug -doc -fontforge -utils"
Splashutils emerged with: media-gfx/splashutils-1.5.4.4 USE="fbcondecor gpm mng png truetype -hardened"
Any ideas?
@Phillip Richter, splashutils-1.5.4.4 isn't fixed portage. To get it to build you need to use the above 'splashutils'-patch to modify your ebuild in your personal portage overlay, and place the 'fbtruetype' patch there as well. Then it will compile without issues. I hope this helps. Just for kicks I tired to re-emerge splashutils this afternoon as it currently exists in the portage tree. It compiles fine without needing to do anything in your personal overlay. So it seems the above changes have indeed been incorporated into the current build. I don't see why it's failing for me, maybe there's something wrong during freetype emerge? Would it bother you to reemerge the current =freetype-2.4.6 and then the splashutils package? Thank you for your help ;) It does not compile to me. I need to add /usr/lib64/libbz2.a at the end of splashutils-1.5.4.4/src/Makefile:842 to make it compile. Experienced same error with media-libs/freetype-2.4.9-r1. I was able to successfully build against media-libs/freetype-2.4.9. Implies an issue with the latest freetype and the patch. |
