Please see the commit in URL.
We need to add UDP tunnelling support to qemu (and qemu-kvm) ebuilds.
Otherwise, gns3 just won't work with QEMU "virtual" hosts.

I think this bug is not related to net-misc/gns3 since the patches are for qemu not gns3 itself.

http://www.gns3.net/phpBB/topic3224-20.html?sid=9cb2248a9b0454f25848c1aa65d71dc8 link to page, containing working patches for qemu-0.14.1.

Maintaining a patched QEMU for GNS3 in overlay, associated with GNS3 would be useful, while preserving non-GNS3 QEMU in original Portage tree.

We either need to decide if to drop gns3 or make it work (which means => patch qemu). gns3 as it is now in tree is quite useless.

Wow, where exactly did you came with such conclusion? It's like dropping firefox because flash games aren't working properly.

I'm using GNS3 quite frequently for various cisco emulation, which is working just fine.

Like Markos said, this is qemu related bug. So basicly there are only two options:
1.) ask gentoo qemu maintainers for patching gentoo qemu (#372345)
2.) ask to push those patches upstream

PS: could please someone change title of this bug to something more accurate, e.g:
"[PATCH] app-emulation/qemu-kvm needs patching to work with net-misc/gns3"
Comment 5 Andreas Nilsson 2012-03-27 06:30:57 UTC
Just thought I'll add some information:

With GNS3-0.8.2 now out, there is support for the qemu native udp/multicast setup. This bug could be resolved by:

Bumping in-tree gns3 to 0.8.2 and depending on fairly new qemu ( like 1.0X ).

Users probably needs to informed about changes in qemuwrapper.py as well.

any update on this ebuild?
Comment 7 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-05-09 16:15:58 UTC
Well since the resolution is that gns3 no longer needs a patched QEMU, I'm taking the QEMU herd out of this and assigning it to the maintainers of gns3 so they can fix it up.

Looks like there is a working version here... bug #415117
