paw actually needs static libs from its dependencies. it is a gold link related problem I would think, gold being stricter for static linking. could you confirm you had gold set as your linker? Uhm, I'm a bit unsure whether to call this gold or not mostly because the two tinderboxes at the time were almost identical. Possibly it was yes. But it seems to me like the problem could be outside that: libX11 has a static-libs USE flag last I remember, and that is almost surely not enabled in either tinderbox; and the -lgcc_s would never be able to work, since that's the _shared_ version... so I'm not sure. Just checked with 2.14.04-r2 on recent ~amd64: build fine and seems to work.
