Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge media-gfx/exiv2
2. emerge fails
3. 'LANG="en" emerge media-gfx/exiv2-0.21.1' 
4. compiles fine

no build log attached.

But: I can not reproduce it. It compiles fine with LANG="et_EE.UTF-8". At least on my ~amd64 system with (normally) LANG="de_DE.UTF-8".

So I will close this bug. But feel free to reopen it, if this error still exists.

perhaps your locale is damaged somehow...
