thanks

I cannot test this because the 7.x.x.x series of compilers appear to require an SSE2 capable processor, and my processor doesn't support SSE2. Is is possible to have the ebuild ensure the processor supports SSE2 before continuing with a lengthy install? Also, the latest version currently in Portage is sci-libs/ipp-11.1.072 which is in the 6.x.x.x series, but because of the naming scheme used, Portage thinks it is a higher version than the 7.x.x.x series. It seems either it or the ones in the science overlay should be renamed so as to have a consistent naming scheme which won't confuse Portage.

We can do a similar check as adobe-flash has, although I like REQUIRED_USE better.

I've been working on some sci-libs/ipp issues for the past few days, and I discovered that 11.1.072 also requires SSE2. I do not know if all versions require it or how far back this requirement goes. Personally, I think the way it was handled with adobe-flash was a good way, and the rationale behind it is discussed in this thread: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/gentoo/dev/252481

But I admit I may have gotten confused. IPP is just the libraries. The SSE2 requirement may be for the ICC compiler suite only.

Could you please add a reference for the SSE2 dependency in here?
