Description Alexander Haensch 2011-06-03 06:35:35 UTC
The driver works well, but after some time working with KDE -KWIN the screen hangs.

I had different kinds of things before the freeze:
One time there was kind of snow on the screen with locking up after the next click.
One time it hanged just after clicking "maximize window".
Another time the mouse was still working, but i could not click or change anything.

I tried to kill X and kdm via ssh. That worked. But restarting X lead to black screen.
another modprobe -r nvidia and restarting X was also showing black screen.
Reboot was the onlt option.

I reverted to 270.41.06 which is running now for many hours.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. work some hours
2. click maximize/minimize windows.
3.
Actual Results:
X screen lockup

Expected Results:
no lock.

I'm using suspend to ram via pm-suspend a lot. I do not know if i need to suspend to reproduce the problem.
But i don't think that it is required.

Kernel 2.6.39
Geforce 9600GT
Phenom X6 1055T

Did you report this via the nvidia forums (or look there for possible solutions)?

I'm also affect by this, the only fix was to disable desktop effects for the time being.

Nvidia said to have fixed this bug in their last release: 275.09.04. (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2441669)

"Fixed a bug that caused freezes and crashes when resizing windows in KDE 4 with desktop effects enabled using X.Org X server version 1.10 or later."

More people also confirmed that 275.09.04 works. (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=162915)

"This bug if fixed for me with 275.09.04, running KDE-4.6.80 and X server 1.10.1."

So I belive that there are two options, disable desktop effects, or update to 275.09.04.
