Description Maureen O'Sullivan 2004-01-01 15:57:16 UTC
I'm absolutely new to Linux but my grandson insists I try it. He burned a "live CD" of Gentoo today, so I assume it is the latest. I am trying to get it to run on my Gateway laptop. My OS is Windows XP Professional. On booting up it does a lot of checking and then I get the following:
  X10: fatal IO error 104
fatal server error: no screens found

(EE) Screen(s)found, but none have a usable configuration.

There is probably a resolution fix already out there but I don't know how to find it. I just got a Sharp Zaurus 5500 for Xmas which, of course, runs Linux. I apologize for bothering you with what is probably not a "bug" at all -- maybe just a glitch in my laptop. Thank you for whatever help you can give me.
