When trying to run gdm, I get an error about trying to link with liblinc.so.1

The error might probably be in one of the dependencies of gdm. It occurred after running "emerge depclean"

"Not-a-bug"  There are big, bold warning letters about depclean.

The issue here is that linc was folded back into other sources, and linc library isn't needed by anything anymore. You can build the current system from scratch without ever including linc.  However things that were built against the old libraries, including linc, still requires it to be around.

either run revdep-rebuild and fix the system, or reinstall linc.
