Found two patches related to sidebar, which make it more useful/convinient to use. A description by the author can be found here:

I tried to apply them against mutt-1.5.20-r18 in portage, but they failed as I did trying to adept it and make it work.

If someone finds the patches useful and can make them work, that would imho be a nice addition and should be added to other Gentoo mutt patches.

hmmm, I'm not really fond of feature add-on patches for feature add-on patches.  It seems the dot-patch should look at imap_delim_chars instead.

Since the sidebar patch by itself is already quite hard to maintain, I reject this request, and suggest to poke the sidebar upstream folk instead (but they are mostly dormant MIA).
