Description kronon 2003-12-30 09:22:02 UTC
I found 2 bugs.
Xmms1.2.8-r3 with alsa plugin + arts = arts crash after some songs playing.
If I change the volume of the kde sounds to < 100% the arts server crashes.
arts & kde are V3.2.0_beta2 I use the alsa plugin for the arts server.
The server crashes every time kde want's to play sound (server keeps crashing)

what version of alsa? I think the 1.0 series is still pretty buggy.
Comment 2 kronon 2004-01-03 09:26:36 UTC
I use the standard alsa driver alsa-driver-0.9.8,
emerged ofcourse.

I have the same problem. KDE 3.2.0 on amd64, using the alsa plugin for xmms and arts. Trying to change the volume on KDE's sounds caused arts to crash, spamming my desktop with HUNDREDS of "artsd crashed" notices. Sound doesn't work anywhere now, not even in console with amp, which had worked fine before.

permissions are fine on /dev/sound/* and /dev/snd/*, alsamixer shows everything unmuted,

Apparently the people upstream are aware of this:

closing this as upstream bug - please prod the folks at bugs.kde.org if this still persists. :)
