what exactly are you talking about ?  if you install libpng-1.5, you must rebuild all packages that use libpng-1.4.  it isnt a bug if packages already on your system still refer to libpng-1.4 if you havent rebuilt them.

Maybe we could drop .la files for old gdm... but I am not sure :-/
