Bites me too on Sabayon using gcc-4.5.2 . The svn-tree of the 4.6 series compiled fine and worked on this system.

For the record, the installation works fine in a full ~amd64 chroot (starting with gcc-4.5.2).

So some other dependency needs an upgrade. But what exactly? :|

OK, seems I've got it
I have now upgraded automake and m4. This didn't most likely change anything.
It started to work when I upgraded to glibc-2.13-r2.
So that might be your missing dependency,

Would anyone be willing to test glibc-2.12.2?  Note that you can't downgrade glibc once its installed.

Works fine with current stable glibc-2.12.2. So, the bug kind of resolved itself.
