Description Petr Pisar 2011-03-23 06:43:15 UTC
app-accessibility/speechd-0.56-r2 installs speechd init script that

depend() {
    need festival
}

Howerver festival init script has been droped in app-accessibility/festival-2.1 per bug #357381.
Comment 1 William Hubbs gentoo-dev 2011-03-27 16:05:00 UTC
The festival init script was dropped due to several security issues as
were listed in that bug.

My thought is that we need to have speechd be able to support festival
this way or remove speechd from the tree.

Does anyone else have any comments?

A known upstream issue, see:

Comment 3 William Hubbs gentoo-dev 2011-03-27 17:50:50 UTC
Actually, comment #2 doesn't apply, speechd is not speech-dispatcher,
but app-accessibility/speechd.
Comment 4 Christopher Brannon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-03-28 18:55:02 UTC
Oh. Sorry for comment #2. I kept confusing speechd and Speech Dispatcher.

Anyway, speechd hasn't been touched since 2001 or 2002, has it?
Is anyone actually using it?
In other words, is there much reason to hold on to it?
Comment 5 William Hubbs gentoo-dev 2011-04-07 19:33:53 UTC
As far as I am concerned, we can give this package last rights and
remove it.
Comment 6 Massimo Burcheri 2011-05-02 07:09:07 UTC
I also confused those 2 sometimes...
Old speechd I'm not using anymore but speech-dispatcher.

So I created Bug 365667 - app-accessibility/speech-dispatcher-0.7.1-r1 init.d script needs non-existing festival init script

Let's do it. Last version came on 2003.
Comment 8 William Hubbs gentoo-dev 2011-08-29 19:16:29 UTC
This package has been removed from portage.
