Emerging ebuild of xmms-mad 0.5.4 breaks xmms capacity of read correctly mp3. If installed, xmms start to crash with several mp3.
The segfaults happens just when you scroll the playlist until one of the "bad" songs appears and xmms try to establish the lenght of the song.
This happen with almost 10% of my MP3s.
Unmerging package xmms-mad resolves the problem completely. 

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge xmms-mad
2.load in your playlist lots of mp3s, chance are you'll get at least one that xmms is unable to read
3.srcoll the playlist

Actual Results:  
xmms segfault

Expected Results:  
read the correct lenght of the mp3, or at least stay alive

This problem manifest itself with both 1.2.7 and 1.2.8 from ebuild and from
original tar.gz.
Unmerging xmms-mad resolve completely every problem.

xmms-mad-0.5.6 has just been added to the system which appears to be compatible with the mad-0.15 series and it does not crash for me...  Can you tell me what version of mad you have installed and if 0.5.6 works for you?

just as a note... the xmms-mad plugin doesn't support streaming mp3s as far as I can tell... still need the mpg123 plugin for that.

Assuming lack of response from submitter means the newer version of mad works.  If this is not the case, please reopen.

No, xmms-mad (0.5.6-r2) still makes xmms crash on certain MP3s, mostly the ones streamed from URLs. While dealing with a bug I reported for xmms, I found this one.

After unmerging mad all previously affected MP3s work again, regardless of being local files or remote ones.

What is mad for anyway?

xmms-mad doesn't support streaming. can you provide a local mp3 that breaks it and reopen?

No, sorry I can't. The bevahiour has changed somewhere in the last days. I had xmms > -r5 < -r8 masked in my portage, so -r9 was the first update to become installed again.

When emerging and using xmms-mad 0.5.6-r2, it cannot access any non-local file, producing an illegal HTTP request. But it does not make xmms crash any longer.

Without xmms-mad (either un-emerged or disabled in prefs) xmms -r9 works as good as -r5 did.

At the moment i'm using xmms-1.2.10-r5, xmms-mad-0.5.6-r1 and libmad-0.15.1b and everything seem fine.
I've tried all the mp3 files that made the old xmms-mad crash without facing any problem.
Sorry for the lack of an answer during all this time.
