glibc build log - the one that failed

Description Joe Kowalski 2011-03-13 00:35:44 UTC
For some reason (maybe it has always been this way?) cross-i686-pc-linux-gnu/glibc tries to build both x86_64 and x86 ABI's. Since the cross-gcc isn't built with multilib/64-bit support (makes sense since the target is 32-bit only), the glibc build bombs out when it tries to start building the x86_64 abi version. I'm thinking for some reason the forced multilib USE flag isn't being ignored on the cross-/glibc build.

Attaching crossdev info & build logs

Reproducible: Always

glibc build log - the one that failed

The work directory changed (...build-default-i686... to ...build-x86-i686...), and it tried/failed to build the 64-bit version.
Comment 7 Bob Raitz 2011-03-14 05:00:20 UTC
I have the same issue. The crossdev glibc emerged once, and will not re-emerge.

Workaround :
add this to your /etc/portage/bashrc
echo "${CATEGORY}/${PN}" | grep -q 'cross-.*/glibc' && MULTILIB_ABIS="defaults"

I'll check if newer version of crossdev add this to /etc/portage/env/cross-*/glibc

confirmed it works :
upgrade crossdev to 20110310
crossdev -t armv7a-unknown-linux-gnueabi
emerge cross-armv7a-unknown-linux-gnueabi/glibc

it works !
Comment 11 Joe Kowalski 2011-03-16 02:30:50 UTC
I can confirm, this is now working with the new crossdev. I did have to purge the parts that had been installed prior to cross-*/glibc, but it worked on running crossdev again.

Thanks!

I'd like to suggest that this bug be reopened as it is still causing issues. When attempting to update cross-i686-pc-linux-gnu/glibc because of the 2.6.38 headers, I was again greeted with failure. This time, like the third attachment, I didn't get past the first ./configure point before things caved:

When I looked at config.log, I noticed this:

Configured with: /var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.4.4-r2/work/gcc-4.4.4/configure --prefix=/usr --bindir=/usr/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/4.4.4 --includedir=/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.4.4/include --datadir=/usr/share/gcc-data/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.4.4 --mandir=/usr/share/gcc-data/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.4.4/man --infodir=/usr/share/gcc-data/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.4.4/info --with-gxx-include-dir=/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.4.4/include/g++-v4 --host=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu --build=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu --disable-altivec --disable-fixed-point --without-ppl --without-cloog --enable-nls --without-included-gettext --with-system-zlib --disable-werror --enable-secureplt --enable-multilib --enable-libmudflap --disable-libssp --enable-libgomp --with-python-dir=/share/gcc-data/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.4.4/python --enable-checking=release --disable-libgcj --enable-languages=c,c++,objc,fortran --enable-shared --enable-threads=posix --enable-__cxa_atexit --enable-clocale=gnu --with-bugurl=http://bugs.gentoo.org/ --with-pkgversion='Gentoo 4.4.4-r2 p1.3, pie-0.4.5'

See `config.log' for more details.

In a nutshell, that tells me that one (or more) of the files that control the configuration of cross-i686-pc-linux-gnu/glibc is incorrect.

My guess is one of the devs knows better than I where all this stuff hides. I looked around a bit, but wasn't sure of what I was looking for.

I am betting that others are still having this issue as well. I've found when my systems aren't up to proper working order, there are others who are having the same issues.

So, I think it might be a good thing to figure out what's really wrong and fixing it. Hopefully, I have just pointed out something that you folks have missed.

For all those reasons, I'd like to reopen this bug so it can get proper resolution.

Can you check that your problem is not related to bug #359509 ?
As I see, it is your case :

Wrong CC is detected

No, I cannot confirm that. If the fix from the bug mentioned is in portage, then no, I still remain unable to recompile cross-i686-pc-linux-gnu/glibc. That particular bug is a bit unclear to me anyway.

Considering that my cross compilation still works, and is used daily, I am not really hot on the idea of nuking it all and then finding out that I still can't get cross-i686-pc-linux-gnu/glibc to compile. Then I'm out my entire crossdev toolchain.

If there is a cure in portage, then I'd like to know. I'm getting tired of this not working.
