Did you run config (emerge --config vmware-workstation)? Is vmware service started? Are vm modules loaded? What are in the logs? Thanks. (In reply to comment #1) > Did you run config (emerge --config vmware-workstation)? yes. I've even tried doing emerge -C --noconfmem vmware-workstation && emerge --noconfmem vmware-workstation && emerge --config vmware-workstation && /etc/init.d/vmware start > Is vmware service started? yes. > Are vm modules loaded? yes > What are in the logs? just these 3 lines Mar 16 20:10:26.202: app| Log for VMware Workstation pid=14834 version=6.5.5 build=build-328052 option=Release Mar 16 20:10:26.202: app| Host codepage=UTF-8 encoding=UTF-8 Mar 16 20:10:26.202: app| Logging to /tmp/vmware-me262/setup-14834.log console output as follows: me262@wheeljack-linux ~ $ vmware Logging to /tmp/vmware-me262/setup-14834.log filename: /lib/modules/2.6.37-ck/misc/vmmon.ko supported: external license: GPL v2 description: VMware Virtual Machine Monitor. author: VMware, Inc. depends: vermagic: 2.6.37-ck SMP preempt mod_unload CORE2 filename: /lib/modules/2.6.37-ck/misc/vmnet.ko supported: external license: GPL v2 description: VMware Virtual Networking Driver. author: VMware, Inc. depends: vermagic: 2.6.37-ck SMP preempt mod_unload CORE2 filename: /lib/modules/2.6.37-ck/misc/vmblock.ko supported: external version: 1.1.2.0 license: GPL v2 description: VMware Blocking File System author: VMware, Inc. srcversion: 4A307DA998F1B808D366494 depends: vermagic: 2.6.37-ck SMP preempt mod_unload CORE2 parm: root:The directory the file system redirects to. I have no GUI to launch a VM from. > > 2. upgrade to gentoo-testing ~x86 > have you tried: > emerge -DuvNa @world > followed by > revdep-rebuild -- -j3 No, I did "emerge -ave system && emerge -ave world && emerge -ave world" I'll try this way and see how it goes. The system has updated for vmware-modules-1.0.0.25-r4. I'm emerging those first. Same thing happens under vmware-modules 1.0.0.25-r4. Through cleaning my .vmware folder, I can now pinpoint where in execution it's going wrong. It's printing out the list of modules, asking for the license agreement, then crashing after "I Accept". I ran into the same problem, and found two separate causes of memory access errors: - Running with libview-0.6.6 causes a in the callback from the "OK" button in the EULA window. Downgrading to libview-0.6.2 fixed this problem. - Using VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=force caused a segfault immediately after the window appeared. Leaving VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK undefined allowed the program to start up normally, though with the known bug (Gentoo bug 291297) of mouse misbehavior outside the prior window bounds when "Autofit Window" is active.
